Sunday Week in Review Thread 8/9/15

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning all. Another week, another pile of light news as the Cicadas drone on in the background. Let's take a look back.

- Calvin Pickard signed something quite close to his qualifying offer this week. We think it was this week. For all we know, all the RFAs signed months ago and the Avs are releasing the news slowly to keep eyeballs on pages. Anyway, he's all good now. Our friends in San Antonio did a quick Q&A with Picks this week for our enjoyment, check it out,

- Speaking of San Antonio, they announced the signings of a couple of defensemen this week, Hubert Labrie and Justin Hamonic. Like the Avs, I suspect they are also spreading out the news over the Summer doldrums. Should be more signings coming out soon.

- The Avs announced that the fourth annual giveSPORTS equipment drive will be happening on August 29th at the Pepsi Center. Bring down your gently used equipment and get the chance to meet a real live star hockey player. Also at Pepsi Center that very same day will be a street hockey tournament open to anyone wishing to enter. Street hockey is super righteous, do it.

- Former Avs video coach Mario Duhamel found a job with Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL this week as an Assistant GM. He will be hanging with Avs prospects Julien Nantel and JC Beaudin this coming season.

- The World Junior teams held their camps this week. Avs Prospects Mikko Rantanen, Sergey Boikov and Conner Bleackley participated with their home countries. Mikko Rantanen played in 4 games and had 3 assists for a fairly weak Finnish squad. Sergey Boikov played in two games vs Canada in Calgary. Conner played a game against the Czechs and a game against Russia tallying one assist.

That's all for now, I'll leave you with this from Captain Gabe and possible future Avs blueliner Victor Hedman. Enjoy!
