Sunday Week in Review Thread 9/6/15

Good morning all. August in in the rear-view mirror and just one week remains until skates hit ice. Things remain quiet out of the Avs front office but there are a few issues that should be taken care of this week.

- Stefan Elliott and Freddie Hamilton remain unsigned and are 2 of the last RFAs in the league without contracts at this point. I'm not sure what to read into that, if anything, but you would think they put pen to paper some time in the next few days.

- Kyle Wood was on the bench in street clothes for the opening of the North Bay Battalion's training camp due to hand surgery some time this summer in Denver. Let's hope it's just caution for a junior vet that has an NHL training camp invite.

- The QMJHL's Pre-Season is over, regular season starts next weekend. Some prospect stats:

J-C Beaudin (Rouyn-Noranda) 4 goals in 5 games, 15 shots
Julien Nantel (Rouyn-Noranda) 3G/1A in 4 games, 18(!) shots
Big Al Pepin (Val d'Or) 1G/3A in 4 games
Sergei Boikov (Drummondville) 9 shots in 4 games
Nicolas Meloche (Baie-Comeau) 1A in just a single game

- The WHL started their pre-season this weekend. Red Deer played last night but Bleacks didn't dress, which is common for vets. Gustav Olhaver played both Fri/Sat, had a couple of penalties in a 2-0 loss Friday night but came back with what turned out to be the winning goal last night in a 5-3 T-Birds victory. I am really interested to get everyone's impressions of this guy in camp.

- The OHL starts pre-season today. Nick Magyar and Kitchener face off against Mississauga today at 2pm in the ET. North Bay also takes on Sudbury but Kyle Wood would be doubtful I assume.

- If you haven't read this article from @objectiveavs on Matt Duchene yet, give it a read. It's a great in-depth look at Dutch statistically and even though it's a season review it goes back much further than that.

- Speaking of Dutch, he and Erik Johnson among others just finished up the annual Body by O'Brien camp in Vail and should be coming down the hill to join everyone for Captain's Practices soon if not already.

- Avs Goalie prospect Roman Will got his new kit this week. Pretty stout.
