Coming home from a brutal road trip to the Golden State, the beloved Rampage need rest, rehab and recuperation. They get a morning game against the San Jose Barracuda instead. The lineup will be quite unfamiliar compared to opening night but that’s life in the AHL.
Injury/Roster Report
- AJ Greer was called up to the Avalanche Saturday afternoon, made his NHL debut Sunday and returned right after the game.
- The list of new wounded from the California includes Jim O’Brien (UBI), Trent Vogelhuber (LBI), JT Compher (?BI) and more than likely Julien Nantel (?BI) who left Saturday’s game after getting boarded by big dummy Hunter Smith.
- Chris Bigras (?BI), Turner Elson (LBI), Jeremy Smith (LBI) and Reid Petryk (broken foot) didn’t make the trip and remained in San Antonio with the training staff. The word is that none of these fellows plus the 4 above will be available for today’s game.
- While in California, the Rampage called up forwards Shawn St Amant and Jesse Mychan from the Eagles and Alex Ranger from Norfolk. Yesterday, forward Joe Devin from the South Carolina Stingrays was signed to a PTO. Goalies Kent Simpson and Nathan Lieuwen swapped back an forth a couple of times with Simpson sticking on the roster.
Stockton Fast Facts
The Rampage earned a split with Stockton and ended the trip 3-3. The fact that they were even in the final game going into the 3rd on Saturday, with 8 of their top players out and against the best team in the division, gives hope. Garry Nunn is a fine player but when he is your best and perhaps only real threat things are not going to end well.
Scoring: 4 goals for, 4 against. Grimaldi (4), Siemens (1), Bourke (2), Greer (5)
Shots: 44-58 (43.1%) Nunn had 7, Bourke 6
Spencer Martin saved 54/58 (.931)
Preview: San Jose
San Antonio faced the Barracuda twice a week and a half ago and split, winning a track meet 6-5 and losing a grind 3-1. I won’t even hazard a guess to what happens this morning.
Trios/Duos for today
Whitney - Belzile - Bourque
Greer - Grimaldi - Sislo
Bourke - Henley - Nunn
Mychan - Devin - St Amant
Siemens - Stanton
Jardine - Lindholm
Geertsen - Lashoff
Simpson
Martin
Scratches: Ranger, Corbett
Injured: Nantel, Compher, Vogelhuber, O’Brien, Bigras, Elson, Smith, Petryk
So here we are, two entire very effective forward lines, the Avs top defensive prospect and the opening night starting goalie all on the shelf. It looks dire but I still really like a good portion of this lineup. Rocco and Greer can make anyone better, Sislo should benefit. I love the 3rd line and Big Sam/Nunn produced a couple of goals together last week.
