The Charlotte Checkers leave the wildfires of North Carolina for a weekend versus what’s left of the beloved Rampage. What seemed like far too many forwards a few weeks ago is now 4 lines littered with callups and PTOs with little relief on the horizon.
Roster/Injury News
- AJ Greer was once again called up to the Avalanche on Wednesday and it might be a while before he returns. He seems to be playing his way into the hearts of Avs fans and the Avs lineup.
- Trent Vogelhuber was the only walking wounded on the ice at practice yesterday, albeit in a non-contact jersey. JT Compher seems to have suffered a setback after skating Monday. A faint glimmer of hope comes from the fact that there are no known healthy forward scratches yet no one else has been called up. Odds are someone can play who didn’t skate.
- Ryan Stanton was not on the ice either, hopefully just for a maintenance day, but there’s always reason to be worried. No callup has been made so there’s that at least.
- What we know:
LBI: Vogelhuber, Elson, Smith, Petryk (broken foot)
UBI: O’Brien
???: Compher, Bigras, Nantel
School Day Game
Loss: SJ 4 - SAR 0
Shots: 27-26 (50.9%), Bourque led with 5, St Amant had 4
Kent Simpson saved 22/24 (.917)
Special Teams: PP 0/3, PK 2/2
Nobody scored for the Rampage but Matt Lashoff did get an assist on all 4 San Jose goals. For the love of all that’s holy, please call Sergei Boikov up and send this fellow on his way.
Preview: Charlotte
The Checkers are 7-4-1 and hold down 3rd in the Midwest, scoring a little over 3 goals per game and giving up 2.25. Not much you can say other than 2 points at least is mandatory if they don’t want to fall off a cliff before Thanksgiving. There’s a light schedule for the next 3 weeks and some of the injured will gradually begin to return, but right now the Rampage must make do with missing 2 entire forward lines that would be getting significant playing time if healthy.
