It was announced by the IIHF, and news sites posting on Twitter such as TSN and Sportsnet, this morning that Marek Svatos died sometime on November 5th, 2016 in Denver. We do not know anymore details at this time, but will be updating you with the sad information as we get it.

Svatos was only 34.

Svatos was a Slovakian player who was drafted 227th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2001. His most productive year with the Avs was the ‘06 season. He played in only 61 games and had a nice round 50 points, 32 of those points being goals. The next season he had 15 goals and 15 assists.

In 2006 Svatos represented Slovak in the Olympic games in Turin.

I am incredibly sorry to hear this. I’ve always loved what he brought to the team. We are having too many players and former players die far too young.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Please share some of your memories today.
