The beloved Rampage have their final weekend series against Iowa tonight and tomorrow. With nothing on the line they've done an admirable job lately, playing solid hockey and winning 6 of their last 7.
- The Rampage signed Jackson Houck to an ATO on Tuesday and he made his SA debut in Wednesday night's game. The 6'1 192# Right Wing was a teammate last year of Mason Geertsen's in Vancouver and split this season between VAN and the Calgary Hitmen.
- Mikko Rantanen was named to the AHL All-Star 2nd team at LW for some reason
- Sergei Boikov is expected to make his professional debut tonight for San Antonio
Reid Petryk should be close to playing, he's missed the past few games with an undisclosed injury
Schumacher (shoulder) and Beck (ankle) have been out long term and might be done for the year at this point
Bordy has gone to and fro from available to injured for a few weeks now. Don't think we'll see him again
Recap: San Jose
Similar to the Texas game a week and a half ago, the Rampage let up a goal on the 1st shift but managed to force overtime and ultimately get another win. After struggling through the first period they came out hot in the second, dominating possession and getting one of the two soft goals from the opening malaise. The third period was wide open, the Rampage desperate to tie the game and the Barracuda desperate to stay in the WC playoff race. Ben Street and Brandon Gormley scored to take the lead but former Monsters captain Bryan Lerg tied it on the PP with 7:25 to go. Overtime was all San Antonio until Garry Nunn scored on a wicked wrister to end the game.
Nunn has 4 goals and 6 assists in 12 games for SA, this is amazing production for what seemed to be a random ECHL callup… Ben Street had a goal/assist which makes 17 points in 11 games this year. What could have been… Borna also had 1G/1A in another of his infrequent good performances… Mikko was initially credited with Rendulic’s goal but ended up with an assist. He’s now back alone in the rookie scoring lead… Nate Guenin had 2 assists including on the game-winner… Jackson Houck made his Rampage debut and played a solid game, ending up with a shot on goal and some solid positional play in limited 4th line minutes… As has been the norm lately the Rampage outshot the opponent, this time 38-32. Mikko (7), Street (6) & Geertsen (4) led they way there…
The Rampage rolled into Iowa late in December on a 7-game losing streak and promptly won twice against the hapless Wild affiliate. Just imagine what will happen now that SA has won 6 of 7.
Lines/Pairs from Wednesday:
Draz – Street – Evs
Big Sam – Mikko – Borna
Thompson – Hish – Nunn
Bourke – Belz – Houck
Gormley – Clark
Duncan – Max
Geertsen – Guenin
Scratched: Mags, Boikov
Injured: Pete, Schumi, Beck, Bordy
Sergei Boikov is likely to make his first pro start. We don't know for whom, going with 7D actually makes a lot of sense here, but I have a feeling I'm not going to like it. Roman Will hasn't played since getting yanked in a blowout loss to Ontario 3 weeks ago. It will be interesting to see if he gets in to one of the remaining 4 games.
