Thanks to Patrick’s abdication we’ve had a big week in AvsLand and a pretty lively August for that matter. Thankfully JulAugust is just about over, in another couple weeks we’ll have World Cup camps and our own Rookie Camp plus Showcase to ponder and dissect. For now, let’s take a look back at the week that was.
- The Avs hired a new Head Coach! Plenty of articles on the site if you missed anything. Look for Jared Bednar to make his way to Denver this week, say hi to the cameras and get down to business.
- S/t to tigervixxxen for this interview from AltRadio yesterday afternoon with Patrick Williams. First of all I’m impressed whoever produces over there knows who Williams is and got him on the phone. If you’ve never heard of him, he’s probably the best pure AHL writer around and does weekly columns for NHL dot com and SportsNet as well as his own blog Around the A. Williams knows Bednar’s style well and has good insights on what he will bring as well as what that means for our beloved Avalanche players.
- In other news, the Avs signed Rene Bourque to a PTO contract Thursday. Like most, I’m not thrilled about this but it’s nothing you should let kill your buzz. With 6 players absent from camp and pre-season the Avs need warm bodies and some vets to make the 8-veteran quota for the early pre-season games.
Should be a mildly interesting week with our new fearless leader coming to town and if not, there’s always the Vuelta a España and early round action from the US Open to occupy the mind. Enjoy!
