The Avs young prospects wrap up their camp today with a practice at Family Sports Center. While the Avs have the Rookie Showcase title in hand, the Sharks & Ducks prospects play the final game with the silver medal on the line at 2pm.
Over the weekend, the Avs beat the Sharks 4-1 and the Ducks 3-2. The victories are great to see of course but in the long run it’s better that they were able to implement the Avs new system in a matter of one practice and a few video & coaching sessions. Not only that but there was marked improvement from Saturday to Sunday. I’m trying to stay even-tempered about this but it really bodes well so far for both the Avs and Rampage going into the season with a totally new overall strategy.
Schedule
Avs Practice at Family Sports Center - 9:45am MT
Sharks vs Ducks prospects at Westminster Promenade - 2pm MT
It’s going to be interesting to see how practice is run today. With the Avs participation in the Showcase over, the urgency to learn the system is no longer there and we get into reinforcement of the strategies learned.
I’m interested in a couple things. First of all, I hope Travis Barron gets to partake after leaving the ice with a shot block injury yesterday. Second, I’m wondering about Zadorov’s attitude and how the staff works with him after yet another bad major penalty in the game vs the Ducks. Third, there isn’t much time left in camp for a few of the amateurs and try-outs, I’m wondering who makes a final big push to get a contract today. Should be fun.
We’ll have some final analysis, highs/lows and summaries later this week before main camp opens on Friday.
