The beloved Rampage are in Southern California for their first meeting with the San Diego Gulls of the year, the only club from the Pacific Division they haven’t faced so far. The Gulls are in 5th place, two spots ahead of San Antonio, but would fall behind the Rampage with a couple of losses this weekend. Let’s hope they do.

FREE GAME

AHL Live is FREE on Saturday so you are all cordially invited to watch one Rampage game. It works on computers or you can use the AHL Live app on mobile devices. Go to this page, click “BUY” on the Rampage/Gulls game and use promotional code AHLFREE17 instead of giving them money. Then sit back and enjoy the game.

Roster/Injury Report

- Jeremy Smith was sent back by the Avs yesterday and will be available for duty this weekend. Kent Simpson was subsequently assigned to the Eagles.

- Mason Geertsen was assigned to the Eagles after recovering from an undisclosed injury. No word on whether this is for conditioning or long-term.

- Alex Ranger didn’t take long to find another AHL job after being released from his PTO on New Years’ Eve. He signed with St Johns this week.

- With Geertsen healthy the Rampage are down to 2 injured right now. Turner Elson & Trent Vogelhuber remain out with LBI and are not with the team.

Fast Facts: San Jose

SJ 4 - SAR 2

Shots: 38-41 (48.1%) Gus Young led with 6, Greer 5, Sislo 4
Special Teams: PP 2/5, PK 4/7
Spencer Martin stopped 37/41 (.902)
Goals: Greer (10), Bourque (4)

This was the damnedest thing, the Rampage led in shots 31-23 after the 2nd but got outshot 18-7 in the 3rd. The refs were atrocious and EV ended up making fools out of them with some shenanigans at the end of the game. That said, the 3rd was tough to watch. They just got owned.

Preview: San Diego

Last year the Gulls were chock full of former Avs but with Mike Sgarbossa traded and Chris Wagner in Anaheim there are none this weekend. Coach Veilleux made a few changes to the bottom-6 today but the top-6 and D remain the same. Marty starts but I expect Smitty to get a game either tomorrow or Tuesday.
