Eagles explode in the third period to defeat Solar Bears

Anyways, the Eagles had a Sunday matinee to finish off their three-game weekend series against the Orlando Solar Bears tonight. The game would remain a tight contest until the third period, where the Eagles would explode for four unanswered goals to top the Solar Bears with a final score of 5-1. Eagles forward Shawn St. Amant would have a successful game as he would not a 2 goal night (1 goal, 1 assist. Clarke Saunders stopped 27 of the Solar Bears 28 shots to claim his 12th win of the season.

The Solar Bears would get themselves on the scoreboard first, when forward Darik Angeli stuffed the puck past Clarke Saunders to give the Solar Bears the 1-0 lead at the 6:19 mark. The Eagles would equalize the game when St. Amant would find the back of the net with a quick wrist shot above the circle at the 12:39 mark in the second period.

Things would explode for the Eagles with Josh Nicholls leading the charge by snapping the puck past the Solar Bears goaltender with a quick shot from the slot to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead at the 7:31 mark of the third period. About two and half minutes later, Casey Pierro-Zabotel would increase the lead for the Eagles 3-1. Jesse Mychan would grow the lead for the Eagles with 7:42 left in regulation when he would chop a floating puck out of midair past the Solar Bears goaltender on the powerplay for his 21st goal of the season.

The game would be sealed for the Colorado Eagles with a powerplay goal coming off of the stick of Michael Colantone.

Up next the Eagles will travel to Boise, Idaho to take on the Idaho Steelheads in a three-game series. The series is set to begin on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:10pm MT.
