Tonight’s game had all the excitement sucked out of it with seven minutes left in the first period when Colorado Avalanche center was forced to leave the game with an eye injury. MacKinnon was hit with the stick blade of Ducks forward Derek Grant in a very scary incident. Grant’s stick came up under MacKinnon’s visor and looked like it got him directly in the eye.
MacKinnon was on the ice in very obvious pain for a few minutes before going directly to the dressing room with his face covered. The team hasn’t updated his condition beyond saying that he won’t return tonight.
It’s probably safe to assume he’ll miss tomorrow night’s game in Dallas at the very least.
At this point, we all just hope MacKinnon is ok. It’s the kind of play you never want to see.
