Another game gone by, and the Avalanche still look to be completely remade after the trauma of last season.

The Avs took home a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night, extending their record to kick off the season to an impressive 4-1-0. Sven Andrighetto has been on fire, Semyon Varlamov finally looks like his old self, and the Nail Yakupov-Matt Duchene-Alex Kerfoot line may truly be on to something.

They play again this evening, but don’t expect back-to-back games to dampen their spirits much. [MHH]

Another high-flying team to kick off the season has been the Vegas Golden Knights, who just lost their first game of the season with a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Athletic took an exclusive look behind the polarizing (but fun) Twitter for Vegas, run by Dan Marrazza. The story of how he got to Sin City isn’t hidden behind The Athletic’s traditional paywall, so it’s worth a read. [The Athletic]

It seems that even hockey can’t stay away from the cold brew craze, btw:

Nail Yakupov has been looking more and more like the player that debuted with Edmonton in 2013, and there are plenty of Oilers fans that couldn’t be happier for him. [Oilers Nation]

Our Denver Pioneers just kicked off the season, officially getting marked down for a tie - but winning the game for bragging rights in the shootout. Ben Shumate has more on how the season opener went down [MHH]

Finally, Matt Duchene isn’t the player starting off this season with rising tensions. That would be Montreal’s Alex Galchenyuk - and things only seem to be getting worse [The Athletic]
