It happened. Matt Duchene has been freed from the Colorado Avalanche and has been sent to the Ottawa Senators in a three-way trade involving the Nashville Predators.

The Picks
From Ottawa to Colorado: first-round pick and third-round pick
From Nashville to Colorado: second-round pick
All picks are for this years’ draft, 2018.
Ottawa’s first-round pick is top-10 lottery protected. This means that if Ottawa misses the playoffs (meaning they have a chance to win the draft lottery and select in spots 1-3) AND finish in the bottom 10 in the standings, Colorado may not get the 2018 pick.
UPDATE: The pick will be a 2018 first-round pick that may turn into a 2019 first-round pick should Ottawa finish in the bottom 10 in the league. All of this will be determined before the Draft Lottery.
Note: OTT 2018 1st to COL is top 10-protected. If OTT ends up there, Sens have option to keep. If they do, COL gets 2019 1st no matter what.

Quick Opinions
The quantity doesn’t matter. Samuel Girard is an NHL ready 19-year old and Shane Bowers is a blue-chip center. Those are quality https://t.co/4jY8G1vxgD

Takeaways: NASH is alllllllllllll-in for 2018. OTT badly wanted Duchene. COL continues to rebuild, adds a lot of future and cap space.

In under two years the Nashville Predators have added Ryan Johansen, PK Subban, and Kyle Turris.
