Toss another prospect on the IR list.

Hello again! Sorry there wasn’t a report last week, but Halloween stuff got in the way and then I got real lazy and here we are. The OHL prospects for the Avalanche were busy busy while I was away, notching six points each.

Some bad news with Denis Smirnov not being able to play for Penn State over the next few weeks, and some highlights are thrown in there for you. Enjoy the report!

Ontario Hockey League

#21 - Conor Timmins (D) - 1G, 5A, +2
Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds - 13-3-2-0

Oct. 27th: @ Sarnia Sting
L 6-3 - 1G, 0A
Oct. 28th: @ Flint Firebirds
W 7-0 - 0G, 5A, +3

Nov. 1st: vs Sudbury Wolves
W 5-4 OT - 0G, 0A, -1
Nov. 4th: vs Niagara IceDogs
W 4-1 - Did Not Play
Nov. 5th: vs North Bay Battalion
W 3-1 - No Points

Timmins missed one game but still pulled out six points the past two weeks. After losing to the 15-2 Sarnia Sting the ‘Hounds didn’t lose another game, scoring 19 goals in five games.

#19 - Travis Barron (F) - 0G, 6A, +4
Ottawa 67’s - 10-8-1-0

Oct. 28th: vs Saginaw Spirit
W 11-3 - 0G, 3A, +6

Oct. 29th: @ Oshawa Generals
L 4-3 - 0G, 2A, +1
Nov. 1st: vs Kingston Frontenacs
L 5-1 - 0G, 0A, -1
Nov. 3rd: vs Barrie Colts
L 4-2 - 0G, 1A, -2
Nov. 5th: vs Sarnia Sting
W 4-3 - 0G, 2A

Barron was dishing out assists like a short order cook during a Waffle House breakfast rush. If only the rest of the 67’s could get in line to get some W’s.

Western Hockey League

Nick Henry (D) - Injured
Regina Pats - 11-6-2

Oct. 24th: @ Kootenay Ice
W 6-3 - Did Not Play
Oct. 25th: @ Lethbridge Hurricanes
L 2-0 - Did Not Play
Oct. 27th: @ Red Deer Rebels
L 4-3 OT - Did Not Play
Oct. 29th: @ Edmonton Oil Kings
W 5-3 - Did Not Play
Nov. 1st: vs Kootenay Ice
W 5-1 - Did Not Play
Nov. 3rd: vs Red Deer Rebels
W 4-3 - Did Not Play

Henry is still injured, and hasn’t even been assigned a number by the team yet. Hopefully the Pats will get a defender ready to go by the midway mark of the season.

#28 - Josh Anderson (D) - Injured
Prince George Cougars - 5-8-2-2

Oct. 27th: @ Vancouver Giants
W 2-1 - Did Not Play
Oct. 28th: @ Kelowna Rockets
L 4-2 - Did Not Play
Nov. 1st: @ Portland Winterhawks
L 2-1 - Did Not Play
Nov. 3rd: @ Everett Silvertips
L 3-1 - Did Not Play

Anderson is still out and should hopefully be back in time to cover for any team mates who go off to play in the world Juniors.

#14 - Ty Lewis (F) - 1G, 0A, -1
Brandon Wheat Kings - 10-6-0-1

Oct. 27th: @ Prince Albert Raiders
L 4-1 - 0G, 0A, +1
Oct. 28th: @ Saskatoon Blades
L 4-1 - 0G, 0A, -1
Nov. 3rd: vs Kootenay Ice
L 4-2 - 1G, 0A, -1
Nov. 4th: vs Kootenay Ice
W 2-0 - No Points

Not the best two weeks for the Wheat Kings or the wunderprospect. Just one goal in four games brings his average down a lot.

Junior A

#4 - Nick Leivermann (D)
Penticton Vees, BCHL - 10-5-1-1

Oct. 25th: vs Wenatchee Wild
L 3-2 OT - 0G, 1A
Oct. 27th: vs Alberni Valley Bulldogs
W 4-2 - 0G, 1A
Oct. 28th: @ Trail Smoke Eaters
L 4-1 - No Points
Nov 1st: @ West Kelowna Warriors
L 4-3 - 0G, 1A
Nov. 4th: vs Powell River Kings
L 4-2 - 0G, 1A

While the Vees didn’t get the victories they were named after, ol’ Nicky Leivermann was consistent with his one assist per game.

USHL

#5 - Nathan Clurman (D) - 0G, 0A, +1
Tri-City Storm - 8-1-0

Oct. 27th: vs Lincoln Stars
W 6-1 - No Points
Oct. 28th: @ Sioux City Musketeers
W 3-2 SO - No Points
Nov. 3rd: @ Muskegon Lumberjacks
W 3-2 SO - Did Not Play
Nov. 4th: @ Muskegon Lumberjacks
W 4-2 - 0G, 0A, +1

Not the biggest offensive week for Clurman, but he did help keep the Storm on a win streak. Maybe he’ll get some points next week.

NCAA

#16 - Cale Makar (D) - 1G, 1A, +1
UMass-Amherst Minutemen
Overall: 4-5 / Conference: 1-2

Oct. 27th: vs Merrimack
W 4-0 - 1G, 0A, +1
Oct. 28th: @ Merrimack
L 5-3 - 0G, 1A
Nov. 4th: vs New Hampshire
L 3-0 - Did Not Play

Makar missed the game and the Minutemen were held scoreless. Coincidence? I think not.

#25 - Denis Smirnov (F) - 1G, 0A, -2
Penn State Lions
Overall: 5-5 / Conference: 2-2

Oct. 27th: vs Michigan
W 5-4 OT - 1G, 0A, -1
Oct. 28th: vs Michigan
L 5-2 - 0G, 0A, -1
Nov. 3rd: vs Mercyhurst
L 7-4 - Did Not Play
Nov. 4th: vs Mercyhurst
W 7-5 - Did Not Play

The team has said that Smirnov will be out of action for the next few weeks with illness. Unfortunate timing, but at this state in his game he’s better off taking the time to get to 100%.

#26 - Cameron Morrison (F) - 2G, 0A, -2
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Overall: 6-3-1 / Conference: 2-0-0

Oct. 26th: vs Omaha
L 6-4 - 0G, 0A, -4
Oct. 27th: vs Omaha
W 5-4 - 1G, 0A
Nov. 3rd: @ Ohio State
W 4-1 - 1G, 0A, +2
Nov. 4th: @ Ohio State
W 3-2 - No Points

Morrison got two goals as the Fighting Irish went 3-1 the past two weeks. They’ll have an easier time over Penn State with Smirnov out next week.

Next week the Ottawa 67’s will be here in Niagara, so I’ll try to get some time with Travis Barron before the game. If there’s anything you want to know from him, let me know in the comments. There’s no question I won’t ask.
