Morning Flurries: Tyson Barrie love and some nifty t-shirts

Talking Tyson Barrie, a bunch of pointless other stuff around the league, and some nifty t-shirts

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Colorado Avalanche Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

It’s about that time of year, my friends.

The weather is getting colder, so the takes are getting hotter. Fans now have 30-plus games of evidence that their player of choice is either A) the best ever or B) fiery hot garbage, and it’s pretty fun to watch that play out.

Here in Avalanche-land, there’s a chance that people are getting too upset with Tyson Barrie. Maybe you disagree. But here’s the case for why that’s entirely possible [Mile High Hockey]

There’s nothing more fun than trying to break down the voodoo that is goalies. For the Anaheim Ducks, here’s a look at who’s doing well (and when that’s happening), using the best numbers available (aka, not wins). [Anaheim Calling]

In some cool news, congrats to Alex Nylander!

Earlier this year, we talked about whether or not Ian Cole could make the move to Colorado. The Penguins have been actively shopping him - but was the addition of Penny Oleksiak’s brother the sign that he’s good and done in Pittsburgh, no matter what? [Pensburgh]

I wrote this. I’m sorry. I’m plugging it anyway. Go read about how much fun James Reimer is as a person. [InGoal Mag]

Just how much do line combos affect players’ individual production? For the Edmonton Oilers, there’s strong evidence that it affects certain guys even more than you’d expect. [Edmonton Journal]

Finally, I’ll end on a fun, ‘give me all your money’ kind of note.

Today, I had the pleasure of chatting with an unabashed Avs fan. While I think I freaked him out a bit with my word vomit on goalies and the expansion draft (two guesses who WE chatted about), he did introduce me to his lovely side hustle, which is making pretty nifty Avs fan gear.

Am I going to get in trouble for unapologetically plugging someone’s small business? Who cares? He made a shirt with Calvin Pickard in a ‘come at me, bro’ pose and sold it for cash money. He deserves my plug. Come at me, SB Nation.

I’m sure some of you are already well acquainted with his stuff, but for those of you who aren’t, you can check it out here. [Avs Fam]
