Sunday Recap, Preview and All-Purpose Coping Thread

NHL: Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning all. The Avs lost yesterday, they might lose again tonight. Such is life...

Recap: Col/det

The Avalanche entered Joe Louis Arena for the final time, played passably for 45 minutes then fell apart like a Chinese cordless drill from Harbor Freight. Final score 5-1 after 4 3rd period goals from the wingy wheels. Mack scored by being in front while TB4 hit him in the foot. Picks wasn’t as bad as this looks. The End.

Preview: Col/Chi

The Hawks can clinch a playoff spot with a win here although our good friend @IneffectiveMath believes mathematically there’s no chance they can’t be in given the remaining schedule. Safe to say they’re going to want this one. Avs need to bounce back from yesterday’s shitshow 3rd and play acceptable workmanlike hockey regardless of outcome. Might see Jeremy Smith tending nets tonight. Game time is 7 east/5 mountain and as of now is still a National game on NHLN.

QMJHL

Our beloved Rouyn-Norandalanche and J-C Beaudin will face off against future Av Nico Hischier, former Av coach Bear Tourigny and the Halifax Mooseheads in the 1st round of the QMJHL playoffs. The Huskies are looking for their 2nd straight President’s Cup and another berth in the Memorial Cup this May. Wonder if Mack (HFX alum) and Svendrighetto (RN alum) have a little money riding on this one.

Nic Meloche and the Charlottetown Islanders have been on fire the 2nd half of the season and clinched the 1st at-large spot in the Q playoffs. They open their quest for Coupe du President against Baie-Comeau. The 1st round gets underway on Friday for both series.

WHL/OHL

Big Josh Anderson and the PG Cougars clinched the WHL’s BC Division title last night, 1st round opponent still to be determined. Travis Barron and the Ottawa 67’s are in the playoffs, right now as the 6th seed in the East.

Rampage

The Rampage scored a pair of loser points this weekend against the 2nd best team in the conference, the San Diego Gulls. It was a good showing, they should have won last night but ended up blowing a late lead and fell in the 4th round of the skills comp. After a horrendous 12 game losing streak they’ve gone 3-0-2 in the past 7 days, hard to complain about that. At least now they look like a team most of the time.

NCHC Tournament

Will Butcher and the Denver Pioneers fell to Tyson Jost and NoDak on Friday. DU ended up winning in the consolation game and gets a 1st seed in the NCAA tournament. NDU lost to Minny-Duluth last night in the title game but it looks like they’ll squeak into the tournament with an at-large bid. I guess, I don’t know anything about college hockey.

Steph, Ryan and I will be recording another #MHHPod this afternoon so look for that on Monday. Any questions or suggestions? Let ‘em rip here or on twitter.

Game thread will be up later, be there or be L7.
