GDT: Weekend Avs Prospectapalooza

FloHockey: US Hall of Fame Game-RPI at North Dakota Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Boy, do we have some hockey for you this weekend. As tigervixxxen previewed for us yesterday, the NCAA tournament gets underway and all 3 CHL leagues start off tonight. As many as 17 games will showcase Avs prospects between now and Sunday night. Here’s the breakdown:

FRIDAY is done

3:00pm ET - Tyson Jost/NoDak vs BU on ESPN 2
NoDak loses in double OT, 4-3

6:00pm ET - Nic Meloche/Charlottetown vs Baie-Comeau on QMJHL Live
CHA wins 4-2

7:00pm ET - Travis Barron/Ottawa vs Mississauga on OHL Live
OTT loses 6-2

7:30pm ET - J-C Beaudin/Rouyn-Noranda vs Halifax on QMJHL Live
RN loses 5-4

10:00pm ET - Josh Anderson/Prince George vs Portland on WHL Live
PG loses 4-2

10:00pm ET - Rampage vs Ontario on AHL Live
Rampage lose 3-2

Not a stellar day for our beloved prospects. All losses save for Meloche and you can call Rouyn-Noranda & Prince George upsets. Tyson Jost’s season is over, now we wait and see if the Avs can seal the deal, getting him to sign a pro contract for next season.

SATURDAY

1:00pm ET - Will Butcher/DU vs Michigan Tech on ESPNU
Denver wins 5-2

3:30pm ET - Cam Morrison/Notre Dame vs Minnesota on ESPNU
Notre Dame wins 3-2

6:00pm ET - Jost/NoDak, if they win on Friday, on ESPNU nope

6:00pm ET - Meloche/CHA Gm 2 on Q Live
Islanders win 9-2, up 2-0 in the series

7:00pm ET - Beaudin/RN Gm 2 on Q Live
Huskies win 3-2, series tied 1-1

9:00pm ET - Rampage/Reign on AHL Live
Rampage lose 2-0

Much better day for Avs youngsters. Nic Meloche’s Islanders destroyed Baie-Comeau and he got an insurance goal late to make it 9-2. J-C Beaudin got an assist on the GWG in OT to even up that series. Will Butcher got DU’s 4th goal of the 1st period and the Pios put it on cruise control from there. Notre Dame pulled out a victory thanks in part to an assist from Cam Morrison on the game-tying goal late in the 2nd. Those guys will be back in action again today in the quarterfinals. The Rampage continued their tradition of not being able to score on the 2nd game of back-to-backs and lost as usual.

SUNDAY

2:00pm ET - Barron/67’s Gm 2 on OHL Live
Ottawa wins 4-0, series tied 1-1

3:30pm ET - Morrison/ND vs UMass-Lowell on ESPNU
Notre Dame wins 3-2 in OT, moves on to Frozen Four

6:00pm ET - Butcher/DU vs Penn State on ESPNU
Denver wins 6-3, moves on to Frozen Four

8:00pm ET - Anderson/PG Gm 2 on WHL Live
PG wins 5-1, series tied 1-1

Travis Barron got the scoring started for the 67’s with a power play goal and they poured in a couple more in just 3 minutes of the 2nd period. GWG and praise from his head coach all weekend for the Avs 2016 7th rounder. Cam Morrison went nuts for Notre Dame and scored both their goals in regulation, that’s hot. DU rolled over Penn State and now Will Butcher and Morrison will face each other in the National Semi-Finals in a couple weeks. PG tied up their 1st round series with a stout comeback.

WatchESPN

The first 4 are pay links, if you haven’t used them before and need help let me or tigervixxxen know and we’ll hook you up. WatchESPN will have all the games, you’ll probably need a subscription to view them live, not sure how that works on demand. The nice thing is that all of these are available on demand to view at your leisure.

Anyone with the good fortune to see games in person please give us all your impressions. Same for anyone catching these on demand. Otherwise treat this as a huge game thread and take some time off from 3rd period collapses. Enjoy!
