After a close battle the game before, where we would see Finland defeat Russia in overtime to advance to the gold medal round, the USA would not disappoint as they would need extra time to defeat Sweden by a final score of 4-3.
The Americans would get on the board at the 10:28 marker of the first period, as Michael Pastujov would find the back of the net to give USA the 1-0 lead before the end of the opening frame. However, early on into the second period Jacob Olofsson would get the equalizer for the Swedes.
Sweden would get into some penalty trouble, and Maxwell Gildon would take full advantage as he would find the back of the net to put the United States back in the lead midway thru the second period.
Penalty troubles would reverse in the third period, as the United States would suffer a tripping call from Tyler Inamoto. Sweden would take full advantage, as Fabian Zetterlund would get the powerplay tally to equalize the game. Not even 2 minutes later, Sweden would grab the lead as Marcus Sylvegard would get the puck past United States goalie Dylan St. Cyr.
The Americans would not stay down for long, as only a minute later they would come up with the equalizer off of the stick of Quinton Hughes.
In the end, it would be Sean Dhooghe who would find the back of the net in sudden death to give the United States the 4-3 overtime victory over Sweden, and punching their ticket into the gold medal game where they will face Finland.
