GDT: 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs 4/23/17

Good afternoon sports fans. With another 3 eliminations last night we’re down to 10 teams and 2 first round series left to be decided. If we get a game 7 it will be on either Tuesday (TOR/WSH) or Wednesday (OTT/BOS). Here’s how the Divisional Finals shake out right now:

ATLANTIC
Rangers at Ottawa/Boston

METRO
Penguins vs Washington/Toronto

CENTRAL
Predators at Bloos

PACIFIC
Oilers at Ducks

If both games fall to the favorites today the second round will be set and could start mid-week if they can get things sorted quickly. Today’s schedule:

3pm ET - Sens at B’s on NBC, Ottawa leads 3-2

7pm ET - Caps at Leafs on NBCSN, Washington up 3-2

Nic Meloche’s Charlottetown Islanders got smoked on the ice if not on the scoreboard last night. A late goal by the Armada with less than a minute left snatched their home ice advantage away. They’re en route to the Montreal area for game 3 on Tuesday.

The Colorado Eagles won their first playoff series since joining the ECHL, breaking an 0-5 streak. All it took was affiliating with the Avs, right? They take on the Allen Americans in the Mountain Division Finals coming up once the rest of the 1st round series are in the books. Here’s a look at how our Avalanche/Rampage guys did individually in Rd 1:

Alex Belzile (Rampage) - 5G/4A, 2nd in ECHL playoff points
Julien Nantel (Avs) - 3G
Sergei Boikov (Avs) - 2A
Shawn St-Amant (Rampage) - 1G
Mason Geertsen (Avs) - No points but was top pair on D and very solid

Kent Simpson (Goalie, Rampage) played the 1st game but lost. Jackson Houck (F, Avs Camp Invitee) played in 1 game. Sam Jardine (D, Rampage) didn’t play because coaches love older crappy players over young talented ones, but should have. Justin Hamonic (D, Rampage) was inactive.
