Weekend Brunch: Quiet on the home front but Nashville pulled out a big Viktor-y

The Avalanche

Mile High looked back 20 years ago to see how the Colorado Avalanche faired in the 1997 Entry Draft. Spoiler alert: not great. “When you’re selecting last and coming off of a President's Trophy winning season, fans likely aren't all that concerned about hitting a home run at the draft. In the summer of 1997, that is exactly where the Colorado Avalanche stood. They were a great team that was likely more worried about beating the Detroit Red Wings the next season than they were about stocking the prospect pool.” [Mile High Hockey]

The Game

Viktor Arvidsson of the Nashville Predators has signed a 7 year deal at $4.25 million per year. The Preds were able to lock up their 24 year old centerman for less than $5 million until hes 31 years old. David Poile definitely deserved the 2017 GM of the Year award. What do you think of the deal? Let me know in the comments! [On The Forecheck]

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews cost the Chicago Blackhawks $21 million alone

Tyler Bozak of the Toronto Maple Leafs got married yesterday as well at a small ceremony in Colorado. The venue looked beautiful.

Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning tied the knot in Sweden yesterday morning. The party looked like a lot of fun.

And finally, Wayne Gretzky was hilariously better than everybody he played against in his day. [Reddit]
