It’s not Tuesday but we had a couple of signings announced today anyway. Much to my relief, Shawn St-Amant was re-signed to an AHL contract for this season and large C Jake Marchment will join the club at training camp in September.
St-Amant made his pro debut last year at age 19 after spending 3 years in the QMJHL with Val d’Or, winning a championship and the Guy Carbonneau Award for best defensive forward along the way. He scored 3G/5A in a bottom 6 role with the Rampage but really shined for the Colorado Eagles, especially in the post-season. He ended up 6th on the team in scoring with 5G/10A and an impressive 58 SOG in 15 games on the way to the Kelly Cup Championship. I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. I think with a good showing this season in San Antonio he could be in consideration for and NHL ELC.
Marchment was a 6th round pick of the Kings in 2014 but ended up turning pro last year with the Sharks organization. He played 4 games for the Barracuda but spent most of the year with the ECHL Allen Americans. He’s a big fellow at 6’4 and 220#, sounds like decent depth that will most likely start with the Eagles.
No term announced for either but I assume they are both 1-year deals.
