The Prospects

College free agent forward Alex Kerfoot signed has a two-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche organization. “Although statistically listed as a bit undersized - the 23-year-old center stands at just 5-foot-10 and 175 lbs - Kerfoot can best be described as a late bloomer and incredibly hard worker.” [Mile High Hockey]

The Avs

The Mile High Hockey team look at what we can expect out of Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson this season. “Johnson was unequivocally the number one choice in his draft class. Franchise defenseman. Offensive threat. Highly skilled. All of these were used to describe pre-draft Erik Johnson. Applying these labels to current Erik Johnson just sound silly. Yes, he is a serviceable defenseman. He just is not the #1 or #2 D he was expected to be.” [Mile High Hockey]

Semyon Varlamov is fully healthy and ready to put a disastrous season, for both him and the team behind him. “Goaltending is a tricky position to try and predict a future for, even more so when a player is coming off of the kinds of injuries that Varlamov has suffered.” [Mile High Hockey]

Avs cornerstone center Nathan MacKinnon will probably lead the team in scoring again next season. Or will he? “This season, the hope is that a number of players either bounce back or take the next step in their development. For the sake of the team - and their fans - 53 points better not be enough to lead the team in scoring this season.” Have your say in our poll. [Mile High Hockey]

The League

The New Jersey Devils have signed former Boston Bruins forward Jimmy Hayes to a PTO (Professional Try Out). Hayes is now allowed to come to the Devils’ training camp and compete for a contract (from any team).

Happy belated Birthday Anze Kopitar, who turned 30 yesterday! Are we all allowed to say he’s old and terrible and regressing now?

Stay safe, Texas <3
