Former DU Pioneer Will Butcher is taking his talents to the swamp

After turning down a contract with the Avs, the NCAA free agent has chosen to sign with the New Jersey Devils

It looks like the Will Butcher saga is finally over as the New Jersey Devils have announced that they have signed the 2017 Hobey Baker Award winner to a two-year entry-level contract.

Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 5th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Butcher became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month after deciding to walk away from the team that drafted him.

Conventional wisdom suggests that Butcher chose the Devils because he sees an easy path to the NHL. As one of the worst teams in the league, the undersized puck mover will likely be given every opportunity to make the opening night lineup with the Devils.

The 22-year old is a left-shooting puck mover that finished his NCAA career with 37 points in 43 games as a senior for the University of Denver.
