Rampage Add Belzile, Frazee and Verpaelst to ‘17-’18 Roster

Two centers and a defenseman help round out organizational depth

San Antonio Rampage

The beloved Rampage added some depth signings as part of the ongoing Tuesday Roster Announcements Series. Centers Alex Belzile and Thomas Frazee plus defenseman Gabriel Verpaelst have been signed to AHL contracts for this season.

Belzile has spent parts of the past two seasons with the Rampage, tallying 11 goals and 11 assists in a combined 70 games. Where he’s really shined is in the ECHL with 58 points in 47 regular season games for Ft Wayne and Colorado. He was a huge part of the Eagles Kelly Cup championship this past Spring, scoring 14G/12A to lead the ECHL postseason by a lot. In the AHL he’s a solid depth center that can add some points and PK skills when called upon. Good guy to have on the team. Reports out of French-speaking media also have Belz with an invitation to Avs camp in September.

Frazee has been on the organization’s radar for a while. He played 38 games for the Komets in 14-15 and was called up to San Antonio from Atlanta last year, playing in 6 games as a depth forward. My first inclination is to slot him into the Eagles lineup for next season.

Verpaelst played for Coach Eric Veilleux in Norfolk two years ago and in the Q with Baie-Comeau along with Felix Girard and Nic Meloche so he’s a known quantity. I can’t confirm this but I believe he was in Rampage camp last year. He’s a mid-sized LHD that has spent just about his whole career in the ECHL so I tend to think he’s also slotted into the Eagles lineup at first.
