Avalanche cut roster by three

Colorado re-assigns Meloche, Lewis and Asmus

NHL: Preseason-Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

This morning, the Colorado Avalanche announced that they have trimmed their training camp roster to 48. Nicolas Meloche and Gage Asmus were sent to the AHL while Ty Lewis - who was in camp on an amateur tryout - has been returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.

The team plays again tomorrow night, but don’t expect any more cuts before the weekend. The Avs play three games in three nights on Saturday, Sunday and Monday so they are going to want to have as many bodies around as possible.

This means both Conor Timmins and Travis Barron who played in last night’s loss will miss the start of their OHL season this weekend.
