The Colorado Avalanche announced last night that forward A.J. Greer has been recalled from the San Antonio Rampage. The Rampage have recalled forward Michael Joly from the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL to fill his spot.
This is Greer’s second stint with the Avs. He had one assist in six NHL games earlier this season. He is up to fill the hole created when J.T. Compher went down with an upper-body injury last week.
The Avalanche play three games in the next four nights and Compher is expected to miss them all before being re-evaluated during the bye week.
Greer can step into the lineup and fill a different role than the one Compher had been playing. At 6’3, 205lbs, Greer plays with more of an edge than just about any other Avalanche forward. He also works as a big body in front of the net, something that might work very well on a line with either Tyson Jost or Alex Kerfoot.
He wasn’t on the ice for practice yesterday, so we don’t know what coach Bednar plans for tonight, but there is a good chance Greer could replace Gabriel Bourque on the line with Tyson Jost and Colin Wilson.
Greer has six goals and 10 points in 16 appearances with San Antonio this season.
