We are less than 36 hours away from the start of the NHL season, and only to days from the Colorado Avalanche hitting the ice in a meaningful game since they were eliminated in the first round of last year’s playoffs.
Now we know who will be on the opening night roster for your 2018-19 Avalanche.
A few injuries late in training camp has caused the coaching staff to shuffle a few things around, so here are all the updates announced today:
Mark Alt cleared waivers but will remain with the team. **Update: Alt has been re-assigned to the Eagles
David Warsofsky cleared waivers and will be assigned to the Colorado Eagles.
Logan O’Connor has been assigned to the Eagles to start his professional career in the AHL.
Conor Timmins has been designated as Injured Non-Roster. This means that he is not technically part of the roster so when he is able to practice, he will have to do-so with the Eagles.
Anton Lindholm was placed on the Injured Reserve. He was practicing with the team - in a non-contact jersey - so he probably isn’t far from being cleared to play.
Vladislav Kamenev was placed on the IR. He has been skating with Timmins - separate from the rest of the team.
Sven Andrighetto was placed on the IR. He has not been skating, so of the injurious players, he is likely the furthest away from the Avalanche lineup.
After all that, we are left with an opening night roster of:
Gabriel Landeskog - Nathan MacKinnon - Mikko Rantanen
Alex Kerfoot - Tyson Jost - Colin Wilson
Matt Nieto - Carl Soderberg - Gabriel Bourque
Matt Calvert - J.T. Compher - Dominic Toninato
Sheldon Dries
Sam Girard - Erik Johnson
Nikita Zadorov - Tyson Barrie
Ian Cole - Patrik Nemeth
Mark Barberio
Semyon Varlamov
