Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has been named the NHL’s first star of the week.

Landeskog had 6 goals and an assists leading the Avalanche to a 2-0-1 record on their road trip through the Metropolitan Division.

The 25-year old recorded the third hat trick of his career Thursday night and followed it up by scoring the first two goals for the Avs in their 3-1 victory over Carolina on Saturday afternoon. The outburst brought Landeskog to seven goals on the season.

Landy sits third on the team with 10 points through the first eight games and is one goal behind Nathan MacKinnon for the team lead. Along with Mikko Rantanen, Colorado’s top line has been nearly unstoppable this season.

After putting up 25 goals last season, Landeskog is well on his way to surpassing that this season. He is a player that has always had the potential to score 30 goals - this might be the year he gets there.

Connor McDavid had six points of his own this week - good enough for the second star - while Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was named the third star after going 2-0-0 with a .956 sv%.

This is the first time Landeskog has been named the league’s first star. He will look to keep his four game point streak alive as the Avalanche take on the Philadelphia Flyers tonight to wrap up the road trip.
