Colorado Avalanche prospect report: Playoffs everywhere

NCAA, USHL, BCHL, and soon the CHL

Craig Houtz – Penn State Athletics.

It’s playoff season! As we trudge through the dregs of the NHL season, let us dive into prospect playoffs.

Ontario Hockey League

#21 - Conor Timmins (D) - 1G, 1A
xyz - Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds - 53-7-2-3
1st overall, 1st in Western Conference, 18 points ahead of 2nd

March 8th: @ Windsor Spitfires
L 3-2 - 0G, 0A, +1
March 9th: @ Kitchener Rangers
W 4-3 - No Points
March 11th: @ Owen Sound Attack
L 6-5 OT - 1G. 1A, -1

The Greyhounds are cruising to the playoffs, having clinched first overall a while ago. Timmins is back on the ice with the team and getting prepped for the playoffs. There’s no season for the Greyhounds that’s given them better odds to get to the Memorial Cup.

#19 - Travis Barron (F) - 1G, 1A, -4
x - Ottawa 67’s - 28-28-6-3
8th in Eastern Conference, 1 point out of 7th

March 9th: @ Kingston Frontenacs
L 7-2 - 0G, 1A, -2
March 10th: vs Kingston Frontenacs
L 5-4 OT - 1G, 0A, +1
March 11th: vs Mississauga Steelheads
L 5-1 - 0G, 0A, -3

The 67’s have locked in a playoff spot, so no better time for a losing streak.

Western Hockey League

#21 - Nick Henry (F) - 1G, 0A, +2
x - Regina Pats - 38-25-5-1
3rd in East Division, 19 points out of 2nd

March 6th: @ Medicine Hat Tigers
W 6-3 - No Points
March 9th: @ Kootenay Ice
W 2-1 OT - No Points
March 10th: @ Lethbridge Hurricanes
W 5-3 - 1G, 0A, +2

Seriously Regina, lose the rest of your games, take the 1st wild card spot and give yourselves a better path in the playoffs.

#3 - Josh Anderson (D) - 0G, 0A, -2
x - Swift Current Broncos - 47-16-4-2
2nd in East Division, 6 points out of 1st

March 7th: vs Calgary Hitmen
W 3-2 - No Points
March 9th: @ Brandon Wheat Kings
L 6-3 - 0G, 0A, -1
March 10th: @ Moose Jaw Warriors
L 4-2 - 0G, 0A, -1

Anderson and the Broncos lost two games close to the end of the season and gave the Moose Jaw Warriors a five point lead over themselves.

#14 - Ty Lewis (F) - 3G, 3A, +2

March 10th: Saskatoon Blades
W 4-2 - No Points
March 11th: @ Moose Jaw Warriors
L 5-3 - 0G, 0A, -1

Ty Lewis is back to his old self, but losing to Moose Jaw helped keep them in the wild card spot, so they can go through the Central Division.

Junior A

#4 - Nick Leivermann (D)
Penticton Vees, BCHL
The Vees swept the Express in the first round of the BCHL playoffs.

Round One
March 6th: @ Coquitlam Express

Round 2 begins on March 16th vs the Trail Smoke Eaters

USHL

Des Moines Buccaneers

Clurman is injured and may not play the rest of the year.

NCAA

#16 - Cale Makar (D) - 0G, 1A
UMass-Amherst Minutemen
Defeated the Vermont Catamounts in round one.

March 9th: @ Northeastern
L 3-2 - No Points
March 10th: @ Northeastern
L 7-2 - 0G, 1A

The Minutemen were swept by Northeastern, and Makar’s season has ended. Rumour is he’ll be staying at school, but I’m sure the Avalanche could make him an offer that moves him......TO A BIGGER HOUSE.

Defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers in round one.
