When the NHL season started, the Colorado Avalanche were looked at as a bottom feeder that would be focused on the draft lottery in March. Now, with 16 games remaining in the season, the Avs have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs as a Western Conference Wildcard team.

Whether they ultimately make the postseason or not, the Avalanche have already greatly exceeded expectations for this season. I nothing else, these last 6 weeks are going to be a heck of a lot of fun with a lot of great hockey to watch.

From now until the end of the season, we are going to keep track of the playoff race on a nightly basis. We’ll update the standings and take a look at matchups. Not just for the Avalanche, but for each of the teams they are battling with for those final playoff spots.
