With only a handful of teams still alive in the playoffs, the focus of many hockey fans has started to shift to the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The season is coming to an end for most draft-eligible players, but there is still a little bit of work to be done before their final value is known.
There are still a few teams alive in the CHL playoffs, but right now the scouting world likely has their eyes locked on the U18 World Championship. While Jack Hughes and Alexis Lafreniere put on a show, they aren’t eligible until the 2019 and 2020 drafts respectively. Guys in the younger half of this year’s draft class can use this tournament to show how they stack up against players their own age.
Through the first few games, Serron Noel and Jonatan Berggren have done a great job of proving themselves worthy of being a first-round selection. Others like Rasmus Sandin and Calen Addison have spent their time in the CHL playoffs showing scouts just how impactful they can be in the big games.
When all the games are said and done, there will be some shifting of the rankings, but we are getting a lot closer to a final list.
