The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday that they will open the 2018-19 NHL season against the Minnesota Wild on October 4 at Pepsi Center.

This will be the third time in give seasons that the Avalanche have played their home opener against their Central Division rival from Minnesota. Colorado also began the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons against the Wild.

The NHL Network will reveal the full 82-game schedule for the upcoming season on Thursday at 3 p.m. MT.

Before we get there, make sure to tune in to Sportsnet and NBCSN tonight for the 2018 NHL Awards ceremony at 6pm MT.

It could be a big night for the Avalanche as coach Jared Bednar is up for the Jack Adams award as coach of the year.

Also, Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon is up for both the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsey Award.

MacKinnon is up against Taylor Hall of the New Jersey Devils and Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings for the Hart Trophy.

Similarly, MacKinnon and Hall will battle Connor McDavid for the Ted Lindsey Award to crown the most outstanding player as voted on by the NHLPA.

After an incredible season that saw MacKinnon put up 97 points in only 74 games, many believe the Avalanche center is the favorite for both awards.
