Early this morning, the NHL on NBC television schedule was announced for the 2018-19 season and the Colorado Avalanche are going to be a part of the national broadcast a lot more than a year ago.
The Avalanche will be featured on six national broadcasts this season, including five appearances on NBC SN’s flagship Wednesday Night Hockey. Not only are the Avalanche getting the prime games, five of the six national appearances will be in Denver at the Pepsi Center.
Being one of the biggest surprises in the league and making the playoffs a year ago likely has a lot to do with the bump in exposure, but a large factor in this schedule is NBC’s desire to showcase star players. The network named Avs superstar Nathan MacKinnon along with players like Connor McDavid P.K. Subban, Sidney Crosby and Auston Matthews in their press release. Avalanche fans know that MacKinnon is one of the elite players in the NHL, it’s good to see that acknowledged by the league and their broadcast partner.
Here is a look at where the Avalanche appear on this year’s national broadcast schedule:
October 24 - 7:30 mst - Tampa Bay Lightning @ Colorado Avalanche
November 7 - 8:00 mst - Nashville Predators @ Colorado Avalanche
November 28 - 7:30 mst - Pittsburgh Penguins @ Colorado Avalanche
January 2 - 7:30 mst - San Jose Sharks @ Colorado Avalanche
March 24 - 6:00 mst - Colorado Avalanche @ Chicago Blackhawks
March 27 - 8:00 mst - Vegas Golden Knights @ Colorado Avalanche
