Tonight the long anticipated NHL debut of Cale Makar with the Colorado Avalanche happened and the rookie had an impact on the game right away.
With the Avalanche holding a 2-0 lead over the Calgary Flames in the first period, Makar would get the puck from Nathan MacKinnon as they rushed the Flames zone, and Makar would battle with Flames forward Mikael Backlund who would come up from behind Cale, but couldn’t stop the freshman from shooting the puck from just below the hashmarks, and up and around Mike Smith for his first ever goal.
Makar’s parents were in the crowd and really enjoyed the moment.
