Last week we got news that a number of Colorado Avalanche players would be heading over to Slovakia for the 2019 IIHF World Championship. Sven Andrighetto (Switzerland), Nikita Zadorov (Russia), Philipp Grubauer (Germany) and Tyson Jost (Canada) all jumped at the chance to represent their countries once the Avalanche season came to an end.
Now we can add the captain to that list.

Early Wednesday morning, Team Sweden announced that Gabriel Landeskog will once again be donning the Tre Kronor.
This news comes as a surprise as Landeskog missed a number of weeks leading into the postseason and many believed that he wasn’t playing at 100% during Colorado’s playoff run. The fact that he’s going to play for Team Sweden would suggest that the Avalanche captain is completely healthy.
The addition is a big boost to a Swedish team that already currently site third in their pool behind Russia and Switzerland with two wins and a loss. Swedish forwards William Nylander and Anton Lander currently sit in the top-3 in scoring during the tournament with eight and six points respectively.
Team Sweden’s remaining preliminary round schedule:
May 16 vs Austria
May 18 vs Switzerland
May 20 vs Latvia
May 21 vs Russia
