Gabriel Landeskog is resting after the Avs playoff run and his time with Team Sweden, but Landeskog the horse was busy this past weekend. Erik Johnson co-owns a three-year-old race horse who raced at Belmont on Saturday. Landy the horse looks better than he races, finishing in 9th place this time.

The start of the NHL draft is less than three weeks away, and MHH is taking a look at the Avs options in the first round, where they hold the 4th and 16th overall selections. Joe Sakic has options in terms of trading picks, flexibility under the salary cap, and no specific need or player to draft.

Around the League

The Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues will play Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Boston on Wednesday night. As such, everyone seems to be pulling fun Game 7 stats out of the vault. Just a few here:

  • This is the first Game 7 in the Finals since 2011 (in which the Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks)
  • The Bruins have played in six Cup Finals but have never hosted a Game 7 until tomorrow night
  • This will be the second Game 7 for both teams this season, as the Bruins needed seven to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, and the Blues needed all seven to best the Dallas Stars in the second round.

The Edmonton Oilers have hired a new President and Chief Operating Officer, Tom Anselmi. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa Senators and President and COO of the Maple Leafs before that. Bob Nicholson was promoted to be the new Chairman of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.

The NHL and NHLPA are meeting today in Toronto. Ron Hainsey, Connor Hellebuyck, Connor McDavid, John Tavares, and James van Riemsdyk will represent the players at the Competition Committee meeting. According to TSN, the two sides are expected to discuss video review during the meeting.

Retired Boston Red Sox star David “Big Papi” Ortiz was shot in the abdomen Sunday night in the Dominican Republic. He underwent surgery, and is in stable, but critical condition. The Red Sox are sending a plane to the DR to transport Ortiz to Boston for further medical treatment. Several members of the Bruins have publicly wished Ortiz a successful and speedy recovery, including goalie Tukka Rask and head coach Bruce Cassidy.
