2019 NHL Mock Draft: We have a trade to announce

Too many options so we have decided to trade down in the first round.

There haven’t been any major surprises through the first 15 picks in the 2019 SB Nation NHL Mock draft. Cole Caufield jumped up to the seventh overall pick and Trevor Zegras (who we almost selected at #4) almost fell out of the top ten. There are still three or four prospects on the board that we are very high on and who we believe will be impact players at the NHL level. With that in mind, we started talking to our fellow GMs to see if anyone was interested in moving up to grab someone they covet with the 16th overall selection.

We have a trade to announce:

To New York Rangers: 16th overall

To Colorado Avalanche: 20th overall + 49th overall

After trying desperately - and failing - to get up into the top-10 to grab Zegras, we have moved back from 16 to 20 and were able to pick up a mid-second round pick in the process. The trade gives us two picks in each of the first three rounds as well as four picks in the top-50 of the draft.

The New York Rangers used the 16th overall pick on Arthur Kaliyev of the Hamilton Bulldogs.
