Female Officials
"Incredible and a dream come true."
— NHL (@NHL) September 11, 2019
Four women officials had the opportunity to officiate at NHL prospect tournaments this week! (via @NHLdotcom) https://t.co/nebf8JPulU
Four of the 96 officials at the NHL prospect tournaments were female. Kirsten Welsh Kendall Hanley served as linesmen and Katie Guay and Kelly Cooke were referees. They each had different levels of prior experience, but handled new challenges well and enjoyed their time. All are looking forward to more opportunities with the NHL.
Avalanche Prospect Tournament
The “Baby Avs” played three games in California earlier this week. They lost twice, but the performances were more important than the final score. Hardev has breakdowns and hi-lights from the games against the Knights, Kings, and Coyotes.
Old and New Faces
Training camp is all fun and games until you realize that some of your favorite players aren’t around and have been replaces by new faces and numbers. So far, Avalanche fans have gotten their first look at Nazem Kadri in an Avs practice sweater, but have had to reckon with Tyson Barrie’s move to Toronto.

Unfortunately, it looks like Barrie is having too much fun North of the border, even if he did attend an album preview event for the Colorado band Lumineers.

Speaking of Training Camp...
Today is the day! Training camp has finally begun, which means that we can justify spending our day watching videos of scrimmages, and begin to predict head coach Jared Bednar’s opening day line-up. Our newest MHH writer Scott hi-lighted the four biggest stories to follow in the coming weeks.
Bruce Cassidy Signs Contract Extension
Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy will be staying in Boston for a few more years. The length, or value of his new contract were not released, but after leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals, Cassidy is doing something right, and is looking to take his team back this season.
Happy first day of training camp!
