The Avs

The Colorado Avalanche lost 2-1 to the Dallas Stars last night in preseason, but it wasn’t without its good moments.

“The Avs had a much better start than last game and put on a lot of pressure but 2018 first-round pick Jake Oettinger was great during his two periods in net for the Stars.” [Mile High Hockey]

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare got his first goal in an Avalanche uniform:

It’s evident that Samuel Girard’s and Cale Makar’s living situation has only helped their chemistry (and also why Girard named his dog ‘tornade’):

Mikko Rantanen

So, how are the Rantanen negotiations going? Well, it could be better.

Elliotte Friedman provided some further context in his weekly 31 Thoughts column:

‘In the radio interview, Liut brought up Mitch Marner’s extension — specifically in reference to another client, Mikko Rantanen of Colorado. That signing has played out as expected, with players/agents using it to increase/justify their asks and teams replying with, “That’s Toronto’s situation, and it does not affect what we will do.”’ [Sportsnet.ca]

Rantanen spoke to a Finnish website about the stalemate:

[Translated from Finnish] ‘Rantanen admitted that the situation is difficult, because at this stage it would be good to get down to practice games. There are also game-like exercises, but the intensity of the match is difficult to simulate. “This is the first time I’m not in camp. But you have to live with it. So far, I have adapted pretty well.”’ [MTV Uutiset]

The League

The Ottawa Senators extended Thomas Chabot:

And yes, it’s still the preseason:
