Colorado Avalanche prospect report: It’s time we changed it up

Hi, Avs fans!

I guess I should begin by saying this: I’m not enjoying the way I’ve been doing the prospect reports anymore — and if you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen me hinting towards my frustrations and wanting to make some changes. When I first took over these reports, they were fun to do. But after a full year of doing them, it’s gotten really repetitive and boring — and I’m 100% sure they read that way as well.

Points are probably the worst way to evaluate prospects — but because I can’t watch all 15 of the players on a daily basis for these reports, it’s essentially the only way I know how to update you all on them. For players who aren’t as offensively inclined, that usually means a week or two will go by without me saying much about them, even though they may be making strides in other areas of their game.

It wasn’t until I began reading the comments more thoroughly that I began to realize that the prospect reports don’t really answer the questions you all have, and I think it’s time I changed that.

So what I’m proposing here is this: I’m going to turn the prospect reports into more of a mailbag (and not unlike what Scott does with Twitter Tuesdays). Send me your questions about any of the 15 Colorado Avalanche prospects on the current reports, and I’m willing to open up the questions to goalies as well!

If you have deep, burning questions about anyone with the Colorado Eagles (AHL) or Utah Grizzlies (ECHL), that’s out of my area of expertise, but I’ll consult other members of the site and be able to get you answers that way. Hardev has offered to answer those questions as he’s been able to keep an eye on the prospects through his other job.

I’ll still be keeping you updated on how the prospects have performed over the past week, and include a few goal videos if there are any. This isn’t about taking anything out of the reports, but adding to them to make them more fun to read and write.

I’m hoping to get this out to you all in hopes that I get some questions for Monday’s update. So comment your questions for Monday under this post — and we’ll post a Tweet about it as well. I’d like to ask answer at least one question per prospect, but I know that’s a big ask of you guys. In the same thought, I probably won’t answer more than three questions about one said prospect per report — I don’t want the post to become oversaturated with answers about Bowen Byram, for example.

Oh, and one last thing — I’m open to suggestions as to what to call these new-look prospect reports. So if you have any, feel free to comment them below! Thanks in advance, and I’ll be back Monday with your weekly prospect update.
