Colorado Avalanche recap: Last Game Ever?

The Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers played a hockey game to the score of 3-2 in overtime in front of 18,025 fans in attendance.

Just before this game started, the NBA announced that they have suspended their League until further notice, postponing all games after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 in Oklahoma City. Within half an hour of the test coming in, the league suspended play.

As for the NHL, they quickly became aware of the situation with the NHL (with whom they share a majority of their arenas), they told reporters that they will also release a statement. That was about the only thing they accomplished in swift order as the statement released by the NHL solely stated that they were still thinking about it and that they needed to speak with all parties involved in the league. We’ll know in the morning when they release another statement whether they have actually chosen to suspend the league.

As for the game, it was against the New York Rangers, who had played at MSG only a few days ago. Another team that had played at MSG only a few days ago was the Utah Jazz and Rudy Gobert. This is how quickly viruses can spread. The fact that this game was played already has made my blood boil. Okay, I didn’t get back to the game.

Does the NHL really think they can still make money during this? All they do is threaten their players, team and arena staff, and their fans. Wow, still haven’t gotten to the game.

First Period

0-1

Mika Zibanejad opened the scoring for his 41st (and possibly final) goal of the year after going end-to-end on the Avalanche. Makes sense, I’d partake in social distancing, too, if I were a player.

With the Rangers getting caught for too-many men (making them 20% more dangerous for spread!) and Tyson Jost scored on the power play. He’s been so good when given a higher assignment. He really rises to the occasion. The NHL could definitely learn from him. It’s a shame the kid is heating up just days before the world ends.

Second Period

2-1

After getting in some controversial penalty trouble, the Avalanche got a power play and Valeri Nichushkin sniped a shot from the top of the circle through the screen of JT Compher and in.

Meanwhile, I was doing great.

Also this happened so I really wasn’t feeling great. (Ryan Strome did this twice in the game).

Pretty much the entire second period was firewagon hockey with each team going on end-to-end rushes. Both goalies were busy the entire period and each made some really good stops.

Third Period

Matt Nieto got stopped on a penalty shot early in the period where Alexander Georgiev made a good save. At the other end, Pavel Francouz put up his end of the bargain. And then some.

And then some more. Wow, his legs spread faster than the coronavirus.

Unfortunately, with less than 30 seconds left, the Rangers tied the game.

Overtime

3-2

After an INSANE two minutes, Cale Makar wins the game for the Avalanche. Everyone can now go home and wash their hands.
