As the NCAA season has been declared complete now is time for presentation of the 2019-20 season awards. Colorado Avalanche prospect Alex Newhook picked up a major achievement as the named the Hockey East Rookie of the Year. He is the ninth athlete from Boston College to earn this title. College Hockey News also named Newhook their Rookie of the Year.

“Newhook led all NCAA freshmen in goals (19), game-winning goals (4) and shorthanded goals (3). He was tied for the team-lead in scoring and paced all first-year skaters in Hockey East, closing the season on a 12-game point streak (10-13-23).

Newhook was named the National Player and Rookie of the Month in February with 20 points in nine games. He was also honored as Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week three times and Hockey East Player of the Week once.”

Despite the truncated season Newhook was also just one of 12 NCAA players 19 years-old or younger to post a 40 point season.

The accolades didn’t stop there as Newhook was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie and second team All-Star. USCHO also named Newhook to their second team All-Star.
