Hard to believe it’s taken this long for the league’s second leading scorer and first in 5v5 points to receive star of the week honors but after an explosive week the NHL had to recognize Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon for his 10 points in four games performance. MacKinnon also holds the NHL’s longest active point streak at 15 games.

The early season trade of Tomas Tatar got the rumor mill fired up as to what Colorado’s next move could be because they need more forward depth, not less. With the impending holiday transaction freeze at midnight eastern tonight it will either happen quickly or speculation will continue on into the New Year.

Elsewhere in the NHL, the coaching carousel continues to turn and the latest coach out is DJ Smith in Ottawa. New bench boss Jacques Martin, assistant Daniel Alfredsson and the Senators will visit Ball Arena on Thursday.
